What are your rates?
60 minutes Individual session $160 + 5% GST
60 minutes Couples’ session $180 + 5% GST
Please take note that our standard weekly couples’ sessions are 90 minutes long. Maintenance sessions can be of shorter duration, while extended sessions or intensives will be decided collaboratively based on your preferences and needs.
Do you take insurance?
I am not affiliated with any insurance company, and I don’t bill insurance companies directly. Some extended health and medical benefits plans reimburse clients for the total or partial cost of a counselling session with a registered clinical counsellor; however, please check with your insurance company for details on what services they cover.
Do you offer in-person or online services?
I offer my services both online and in person. Currently, the in-person is available only two days a week. Please let me know which works best for you, and we can arrange our meetings accordingly.
How long of a session should I book?
For couples: We will start with a 90 minutes joint intake/ assessment session. There is a lot that gets covered in this session, so please note that this first session is always 90 minutes long. After the joint intake session, I will meet with each partner individually to complete the intake/assessment process. This session is 60 minutes long for each partner. All subsequent couple’s sessions are at least 75 minutes long unless it is a maintenance session. 90 minutes sessions are often used at the start of couples therapy.
How many sessions do I/we need?
The number of sessions and their frequency depends on the individual/couple’s needs and the goals they have for themselves and their relationship. Some individuals or couples will come to therapy for a specific need or goal and only require a few sessions, while for others, a longer commitment is needed to achieve their desired outcome. For example, a couple who has done a lot of work on themselves and their relationship and come to therapy to discuss a new topic that has recently emerged may only need 3-6 sessions, while a couple that has years of difficulties to sort through, could require anywhere from 6 months to a few years of commitment to therapy.
What counselling approach do you use?
I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from different theoretical models and therapeutic tools to suit your needs. Although my training in the Bader-Pearson Developmental Model for Couples Therapy provides the foundation for my practice, I continuously draw upon my training and knowledge in the Gottman Method, Internal Family Systems Theory, Sex and Sexual Health Education, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis and more. This allows me to apply a variety of life-changing interventions to my clients based on their needs and what works best for them.
My mediation training plays a significant role in helping me assess where my clients struggle in their interactions. I will work with you to identify old patterns and habits that hold you back from being an effective and empowering communicator. I will provide you with the skills and tools needed to clearly articulate your needs and resolve conflict effectively.
How Can You Help Yourself?
- Attend a consultation appointment to make sure we are a good fit
- Agree to commit to the work
- Show up willing and open to challenging yourself
- Follow through on your assignments and homework
- Put what you learn into practice and learn from your mistakes
- Be fully invested and engaged in your self-discovery, recovery, and growth
- Don’t give up on yourself
What to expect from me?
Expect me to be very invested in your own journey of growth and development. Expect me to keep my knowledge and tools current and evidence-based continuously. Expect me to challenge you to leave your comfort zone and to actively disrupt the current dynamics, habits, and patterns that no longer work in your favour. Expect me to expect you to be equally invested and engaged in your self-discovery, recovery, and growth. Our work together is very collaborative, and, as a team, we each need to do our part to help you achieve your goals successfully.
How to justify the cost and the time commitment?
Like any other commitment you make towards self-improvement, such as signing up for a gym membership, buying clothes, or travelling, counselling also requires an investment of your resources. If you are unsure, to help you decide, ask yourself, “Can you afford NOT to invest?” If you sense deep down that something is “missing” in your life and relationships, give yourself the gift of possibilities. That is, a real chance to grow and develop a life that leads to deeper connections and greater life satisfaction.
